What a slow dryer really costs.
Put in your loads, how long they take now and how long they should take, and see the extra energy a restricted vent burns every year, and when a cleaning pays for itself.

How this works
- We assume an electric dryer uses about 4 kWh for each hour it runs, and a gas dryer about a quarter of a therm plus a little electricity.
- Extra minutes come from the difference between what your loads take now and what they take with a clear vent.
- These are planning numbers. Your dryer, rates and loads will differ.

Dryer Cost Calculator questions
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
At least once a year is the usual starting point. Large households, pets and long runs with many bends may need it every six months. Our Cleaning Schedule tool gives a suggestion for your home.
How do I know my dryer vent is clogged?
Clothes that are damp after a full cycle, a dryer that is hot to the touch, a hot or humid laundry room, a burning smell, lint around the vent hood and a flap that barely opens are the common signs.
How long does a cleaning take?
Many standard jobs take about an hour. A long run, a roof exit, a heavy clog or a multifamily building takes longer. We tell you what to expect before we start.
Ready to stop the waste?
A cleaning clears the vent and an airflow reading shows the result.
